Abstract
The Functional Threshold Power (FTP) is used to establish training zones in cycling. It was compared with the lactate threshold. This study tries to determine if there is a correlation and to what degree these two metrics are related, for which the 23 male cyclists of the professional team "Boyacá is for Living it" were tested, with an average age of 24.2 ± 5.9 years; height of 1.69 ± 0.11 meters; and weight 62.5 ± 13.5 kg, and a minimum sports age of 4 years, who performed a 20-minute constant load test to establish the critical power and from there the FTP by subtracting 5%, and at 72 hours, an incremental test was applied with steps that increased 10 W every 4 minutes, taking a blood sample at the end of each step to determine the moment in which the balance between lactate production and removal is broken. The increase of 1 mmol or more in the concentration of lactate in blood was taken into account, between one step and another, whose average was 250.22 (±25.92), against the FTP that was 262 (82±25 ). There is a strong correlation r=0.957 – p=0.00. However, in 99.5% the FTP was found to be overvalued, compared to the LT, concluding that it is advisable to measure and not estimate and the result should be applied individually.References
