Abstract

The bicycle is a means of transport that has been present in the development of the human being, so it requires special attention to study its impact on society due to the pandemic caused by Sars covid19. Objective: To know the interest of students, teachers and officials of the Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia, Tunja headquarters, regarding the use of the bicycle in the period of preventive isolation in the years 2020, 2021 and post-confinement. Methodology: Quantitative approach, of a descriptive explanatory type, cross section; in a stratified random sample made up of 737 participants with a 95% CL, and distributed as follows: 569 undergraduate and graduate students, 70 teachers, 98 non-teaching employees and workers, who signed the informed consent to participate in the study. Results: Participants aged between 18 and 65 years, 55% men and 45% women. The use of the bicycle increased with a satisfaction of more than 50%. This is why 451 people are willing to get around by bicycle, reasons: - For economy and time. - Because it is a means of better circulation in public transport. - It favors the environment. - Improves physical condition and generates physical well-being and health. After the pandemic, the use of the bicycle increased by 37.3%. 85% of those surveyed are willing to travel by bicycle in the post-pandemic period. They request the University to establish ample and exclusive spaces for parking, route signage and access through all entrances. Conclusions: A large percentage of those surveyed express that they have modified their willingness to use the bicycle as a means of transportation in the Covid19 pandemic and they are willing to travel to the University by this means as long as institutional efforts are made to offer conditions that comply with infrastructure and security requirements.
